“Future intended. Future implemented.” This is the motto of the DKOU 2024.

There have been many changes and adaptations in medicine, science and health policy in recent years. Even more numerous are the proposals and wishes of the most diverse interest groups.

In order to ensure the best treatment of our patients in the future, we are pushing ahead the medical and scientific progress, developing new treatment methods, refining known and proven concepts and training our junior staff. However, the political framework conditions, demographic change and crises with global impacts are making our daily work even more difficult. How can medical and scientific progress be financed? How can the medical treatment of an ageing society be realised for everyone? How do we attract and retain the next generation, especially in our field? In short, how can orthopaedics and trauma surgery be designed and developed in a sustainable, forward-looking way for the benefit of our patients? Meaningful and innovative concepts must be developed in agreement between society, politics and us as service providers. If we want to continue to be excellent in patient care, science as well as education and training in the future, these concepts must be implemented today.

So it is all about doing! At the DKOU 2024, we want to drive this forward with main topics such as “Outpatient before inpatient?”, “Digitalisation and Big Data”, “Evidence in conservative and surgical treatment” and “Attracting young talent, retaining young talent”. It is worth taking a look at our immediate neighbours, therefore we invited as guest nations Denmark and Switzerland.

We would like to thank our specialist societies, professional associations, sections, working groups, academies, teams, industry partners and congress organisers for their great support, without them Europe’s largest Congress for Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery would not have been as successful for so many years.

However, a congress like the DKOU lives first and foremost from your content, presentations, programmes, exhibitions and the opportunities to meet with you. Take advantage of this excellent opportunity to not only inform but also to educate yourself, to present the results of your scientific work and to exchange professional and collegial information in direct conversation. We also want to have fun together!

Come to the DKOU in Berlin in October 2024! We look forward to seeing you!
